If these are not the perfect summer shoes than I do not know what is. They fit right into my wardrobe of vibrant colors with a mix of neutrals. These would actually look perfect with a denim dress and a yellow bag or a bright cobalt blue monochromatic look with dainty gold accessories. So many ideas for these beauts. All I have left to say is please and thank you!!

Shirt Dress & Nudes

Michael Kors mini dress Giuseppe Zanotti lace up boots Kate Spade white handbag Rag bone fedora hat Tom Ford sunglasses )

One of my favorite wardrobe staples has to be the shirt dress. It is the classic of all classics and it reminds me of some of my favorite Hollywood style icons like Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton. Yes, in my opinion they are style icons. I am all about the fly older lady club; women who always look chic and put together.

The shirt dress can be styled in many ways for many different occasions. In this set I decided to style it in a way that is appropriate for someone in my age range and in a way that is still on trend. It has been all about the nudes since fall. Although I am all about a good monochromatic look, it is good to switch it up and add some dimension to your look.

This look works perfect for work (if you work in a more creative, non-traditional business environment), brunch or a lunch date, or you could switch out the heels for some chic flats and have the perfect day-out look. The shirt dress is one of the most versatile pieces you can have in your closet.

I haven't posted in a while because I was on a long and much needed vacation with my family. We spent the week in Myrtle Beach, SC which has been one of my fiances and mines favorite quick get away spot since our college years.

While I was away I didn't want my focus to be on what to wear, so I packed things that were quick, easy, comfortable, but still stylish. I think that I am going to live in jumpsuits this spring and summer. Now that I am back I am focusing on work because I have a lot going on in that area of my life and I will do my very best to get back to regular posting because I love blogging.

Peace & Happiness: A Celebration of Life

On April 3rd I celebrated my birthday in downtown Raleigh with a few good friends. We played old school arcade games, had a few drinks, and had a very late dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. It was the perfect night for me.

As I get older I realize that the most important thing in my life is my peace and happiness. As cliche as that may sound it is so very true. We are overwhelmed with the idea of what the perfect life is supposed to be on social media and television, but in reality a happy life is what we make it.

I am very grateful for the blessings that I have received for the past 28 years of my life and I look forward to the next journey. Remember always be  grateful, live in faith, and believe in yourself.

Fabulous Finds: S/S 2015

Hey Vanessa A. Fabulous Finds

I live by the mantra that you do not have to sacrifice your budget for style. Some people will argue that you are paying for quality and luxury when you splurge on designer pieces and although I agree, I believe that you can look just as chic and stylish for a fraction of the price. You just have to know where to shop and what to buy. It is also important to take care of what you own no matter where you purchased it from and it will last you longer than you may expect.

I absolutely love all of the pieces in this set and the great thing is that they are still available online and in stores. They are right on trend for this s/s season and a lot of these items are wardrobe staples: striped t-shirt, white denim, espadrilles, sneakers, and a nice pair of shorts that you can dress up or down. I own all of these pieces except for the espadrilles which have been on my to buy list for a couple of weeks. They will be perfect for me to take on vacation next week.

The Edit

Sunday, March 29, 2015

As I sit here typing this I am trying to recall the number of blogs, articles, books, and websites that I have  read that offered up advice on how to edit and organize your closet. I can't think of a number because there have been so many. I am all about closet organization, but it is the advice on editing down your closet that I am starting to have an issue with.

When the seasons change we feel obliged to not only clean our homes, but clean out our closets in order to make room for garments appropriate for the new season. Standing frustrated and overwhelmed in our closets, we hold up each piece and debate whether or not we should keep it. If you are like me then you start to feel a tinge of separation anxiety in your gut. I always ask myself "What if I am going to need this"? Sometimes you don't, but sometimes you actually do. The "How to Edit Your Closet" articles will attempt to convince you otherwise.

A lot of people live by the age old fashion rule that if you haven't worn an item in six months to a year then it doesn't belong in your closet. It sounds logical and like good advice to follow, especially if you don't want to end up on an episode of hoarders, but it is also completely subjective. The fun of being a fashion and personal style enthusiast is kind of being a curator of your favorite trends and rediscovering the lost items that you love in your closet. I will not argue when it comes to tossing out those items that are ill-fitting, damaged, or make you feel like crap when you look in the mirror. Those are the items that need to go. Do yourself a favor and avoid the great debate about whether or not you should keep something if you still like it and you think that there is a chance that you may wear it again ... JUST KEEP IT!! After all you did spend your money on it and brain surgery it is not.

My last point on this closet editing issue, and then I will digress, is that if we all edit our closet down to the basics, what will happen to the creativity and individuality that defines personal style?! After all street style is made and owned by those who take trends and make it look like they came up with the shit themselves. Fashion is supposed to ring true to who you are. It is supposed to be personal, hence the phrase personal style ... and fun.

So to all of you guys and gals like me who genuinely enjoy shopping and creating different looks with all of the amazing garments that make up your over sized wardrobe, keep being yourself, keep being awesome, and hold on to all of those wonderful pieces as long as your fashion loving heart desires. Having a load of clothes doesn't make you less stylish!

Spring Vacation Vibes

Vacation Vibes

NLST loose mini dress Madewell shirt dress Yves Saint Laurent loose sweater H m jacket One Teaspoon shorts Milly bikini top Topshop white cutoff shorts Chanel espadrille Pieces black flat shoes Leather purse Betsey johnson purse Yves Saint Laurent brown sunglasses

I have been so wrapped up in work and blogging that I failed to realize that my birthday and 10 day vacation starts on Friday. I don't know where I will be going yet because my Fiance is doing the planning, but hopefully it is somewhere warm considering the fact that the temperature has dropped about 20 degrees within a few days. I think we can all agree upon the fact that winter has stayed well past its welcome. Nonetheless I am looking forward to soaking up the sun somewhere in Florida.

Packing has never been a talent of mine. I am the queen of over packing because I have an intense fear of forgetting something that I may need. This time around my goal is to pack basics that I can mix and match and some bold pieces that I can dress up for dinner or a night out. My main goal is to be comfortable and focus on having a good time with my family. My step-daughter's birthday is the day after mine and her spring break starts the same week as my vacation so this will actually be a family affair.

The one thing that I love about all of the pieces in this set is the versatility. Black and white stripes pair well with everything and denim is a wardrobe staple and an essential item to include when packing for any trip. When I am preparing to embark on my journey to 10 days of relaxation I will definitely be including a version of all of these items. I actually own the textured, yellow blazer from H&M, so I am excited to bring that along and style it up with my stripes, but I need to find the perfect denim dress. If you have any suggestions for great denim dresses share them on the comments below!
